Upon a Moonlit Glow

Halcyon grinned, still panting hard from the skirmish. Her daggers were clutched tightly within in her fingers, humming with enchancement spells. Finally the vampire, also resting in a tired crouch, let out his breath and staggered to his feet. "Okay, enough," he chuckled, tucking his hunting knifes back behind his cloak. "I woulnd't want to exhaust you for your trip."
"I could use a little training in case the ever catch me," the Moon Elf puffed, slowly getting to her feet as well and slipping her daggers back into the sheaths strapped to her thighs. She nodded towards the mountains. "What are they called? Those mountains."
"The Sos'Umptu Mountain range." Ciarou informed. "Mountains of unknown things. It'd be wise to stay away from them. You don't know what may exist up there."
"Not many people venture into them?"
"If any, unless they're heavily armed and trained."
   "Good."
"Why? Are you headed there?" Ciarou rose a brow, trying to conceal his interest.
"Why would I?" Halcyon crossed her arms. "I wouldn't tell you where I'm headed anyways. Remember? I'm being hunted."
"And? Lots of things are hunted to some dregree, for some reason." Ciarou snorted, also crossing his arms. "Like me. Not many people are too fond of blood-sucking beings that need to feed on them."
    "So drink cow's blood."
"That's still their live-stock. Farmers around here don't appreciate their food getting eaten, or weakened down."
"Well, if I gave a crap, then maybe I'd feel sorry for you." Halcyon sneered. "But I'm too caught up in my own problems now, thank you." The elf fastened her cloack around her shoulders once more and began to cast her invisibility charm. After doing it for so long, she had grown quite a talent in it. In making force-feilds too, since if she hurt anyone else who might launch a surprise attack on her, the peoples' hate would grow, and so would the price upon her head.
She couldn't afford that. And yet here she was, playfully batteling with a half-vampire. "I must go." she finally said and Ciarou seemed a bit surprised.
"But we just met," he said.
"That means I'm already too late in killing you." And with that Halcyon's charm finished, blending her within all the colors of the earth with only a lightly warped image left in her wake. Ciarou, however, kept his gaze locked firmly on her. "I can still see you."
   "And?"
"'And?' you ask? I can still follow you."
   "Don't."
"Try and stop me." Ciarou smirked. "I've also been running a while. I have a lodge over there, where I can take refuge a while once every now and then. But then I must keep myself hidden too. We could run together, help each other out. I could use the blood of anyone who comes after us, after all. And then you won't have to kill them."
"No." Halcyon answered firmly. "You'll only get in my way. And follow me withou my will, and I will have no other choice than to kill you too!" Then the elf took off down the leaf-covered forest floor, zooming around the vampire a few times to stir leaves about him to blind him a moment while she then rebounded and tore towards the mountains. She could hear him yelling, batting leaves from his face, but by the time they cleared she was already far away.
All the while Halcyon felt watched, as if something was stalking her, even now. Twigs and leaves cracked to her left, but her eyes saw nothing. She increased her speed with yet another spell, the mountain's now growing in size as she neared them. They truly looked morbid and forbidden. Perfect. Living there wouldn't be ideal, but at least she might be able to settle down a while...As long as that half-vampire didn't give her away! She was sure he was suspicious when she asked the mountains' name.
The elf was tempted to abruptly stop and listen for what ever was watching her, but decided against it. Maybe she'd lose it within the mountains. If not, then what ever lurked in its ridges might help take care of it. Halcyon was quite confident she'd survive in the Sos'Umptu. After all, the clan of the Moon Elves was a none too gentle clan, their parents were harsh, the leaders were harsh, and not much sensitivity or love was spread. It was considered a weakness that'd corrupt and bring them all down. In arms the elves worked as one, in war each elf was for himself.
It was not a plesant  way to grow up and see the world, but it had approved and effective way to make strong warriors, both ruthless and cunning, clever with illusions of trickery. Halcyon was proud of her clan. But ever since the rumers the king spread, and after the incident two and a half years ago, everyone turned on her. Her clan and kin no exception. And now it mattered not where she belonged. But being a Moon Elf, and have been raised in their way, helped a lot on her journey. If she was raised with love, if she was raised with gentle and patient hands she would be dead now. She'd be weak. She'd be bleeding and crawling away instead of tearing through a forest right now towards a hope that might save her. Yes, she forgave the Moon Elve's harsh ways. She had them to thank for still being free now, and not chained to a cold dungeon floor waiting to be executed or torchered to pry out she secrets she had sworn to hold.
Another twig snapped. Who ever was following--watching--her, was not doing it too carefully. Halcyon's eyes wandered to her sides to make sure nothing was planning on flanking her. Nothing was there. Halcyon picked up the speed even more, liking it better if the monster just came out so she could finish it already and get it off her trail.

Silverstars

Spirix, acting almost, squirrellike, branch-hopped through the trees, in the thinnest of the top branches, eyes locked on the strange, fast moving spot of warped air almost directly beneath him. He pounced again from a bowed brach, to another tree. The thing paused. In the pause, Spirix thought he spotted another thing pursuing it--besides himself, of course.
As he spotted this second thing, he made a fatal mistake. He realized a split second too late that he had hesitated too long on the wire-thin branch, and his weight, though unsubstantial, snapped the branch, sendeing him down crashing onto the first thing.

Upon a Moonlit Glow

Halcyon felt the creature smash into her, her heel snapped under the weight and sent her tottering to the side, throwing the animal off as she was sent skidding through a mass of leaves, autumn colors flying everywhere. Halcyon, her concentration broken a moment, quickly called up the invisibility charm again and jumped to her feet, applying a little bit of green healing magic to her sore ankle. Thankfully the thigh-high boots had helped support it, and no real damaged had been done. The animal who had fallen was now slowly getting to its feet and Halcyon's eyes snapped to a few yards behind them where leaves sudden flew up as if something had abruptly stopped.
Instantly Halcyon felt another magical aura, and not just from the furry cat-like creature infront of her. Now what? Kill them both? Had she the time? The feline was now standing on its hind legs, staring lazily at her, probably still dazed from the fall. It's tail twitched with alert when Halcyon took a step to the side. "You persue me, and you'll make a nice winter coat," Halcyon growled angrily, both fists clenching and her veins pulsing with warm un-used energy. She had always been hot-tempered, a strange characteristic for her cool and calm but rutheless kin. At this point the Moon Elf represented more a drow than any other elf clan.
"I thought someone was there, elf," the creature snarled back with a curl of its lips.
"That's your problem then," Halcyon retorted. "Don't think next time." She took a feigned dart to the left but then, with her skill in magic teleportation, warped a few yards ahead to the right. The creature lunged to the left, quickly pawing a swerving turn when it saw it had missed, but the slippery leaves slowled it and Halcyon raced ahead, increasing speed with every step until her legs felt like they would wrench from her body.
Still, even now as the creature took off after her, she felt another prescence almost directly behind her, keeping up with ease. She didn't recognize it, but it bothered her greatly.  The creature also had to be taken care of. Who knew what it wanted with her? She couldn't risk the chance. She had to get away from it. A large animal like that most certaintly wouldn't die of natural causes until it was older, and no other animal would easily be able to bring it down. Someone would know it must've been something else. But what to do with the two? She had to either get rid of them, or escape. And she wasn't about to let her cold heart warm up and ruin her chance at a close as it would ever get normal life.

Silverstars

Spirix let a thin hiss slip between his teeth, and the fur around his shoulders bristled slightly. He sensed, besides the elf and whatever else was following her, yet another force, not so much and aura of magic as simply a sense of life.
His tail twitched, and he sprang with unnatural speed and strength, back into the trees. He branch-hopped about five trees, then stopped again, disturbed. Pricking his ears, he sensed again, the elf, her other pursuer, and this strange life. It bothered Spirix.
Pursuer pursuing another pursuer, pursuing the pursuer of a Moon elf. The odd thought crossed his mind.
Spirix ignored it, and sped up his hunt of the elf, barely touching the trees, and steadily climbed in altitude as he went. A flicker of white passed under him, keeping pace with him. Again, he ignored this thing, and sensed his gaining upon the elf. Soon, he was over her again, keeping pace with her, as his follower was him. Suddenly she stopped. Spirix forcefully stopped himself, clinging to a thin branch. It bowed under his weight and he used it rebound to slingshot himself back to the scene.
A fine huge gryphon, whiter than the elf it had pinned, save for the black tips of it's feathers and tail, had pounced on the elf, and no amount of the magic she threw at it seemed to affect it greatly. It clearly would not move, with the apparent intent of devouring it's prey. It's lack of action, however, soon led Spirix to believe otherwise.
Spirix, crawled, spiderlike, through the outer branches of the trees to a better vantage point. He would wait out this episode, observant, until the time was fit to intrude.

Upon a Moonlit Glow

Halcyon braced her feet against the gryphon's chest, trying to force it off while her arms flailed wildly with spells. However Halcyon noticed each attack hit a small shield that rippled with rainbow powers, cutting them down until nothing remained. This wasn't a normal gryphon. She testily swung a fist at the shield and felt icy cold against her skin as her hand slid through with little resistance, landing into a plumage of soft white feathers and hit something hard. It was an amulet. Halcyon rolled her neck to the side, avoiding a large black beak that shot down into the soil. Her fingers clenched the amulet tightly when suddenly something leapt onto the gryphon's back; a lightly warped image, a person a little less skilled than her in creating invisibility.
The gryhpon shrieked as Halcyon saw a hand rip away thick white feathers and exposed a soft pink skin. Then two little holes punctured the flesh and the gryphon jerked its head to the side, black talon scraping over Halcyon's left shoulder as it rolled away. But the amulet, still clenched in the elf's hand ripped from its throat with a light snap, which fell from her hands as pain seared through her shoulder. Halcyon bit her tongue and took no more time in getting to her feet and wrenching out two large daggers strapped to her thighs. Her helper was more than obvious: Ciarou. But before getting angry Halcyon had to kill this beast
"Hiya!" ?Halcyon cried out as she lunged forward and slid through the barrier, both daggers jamming deeply into the gryphon's back. It shrieked and veered to the left, swinging back onto its feet and nearly threw Halcyon off. But she held fast by her daggers, bracing her feet against its rib cage as she wrenched them loose and landed with a neat flip. She watched as the gryphon's front talon's came sweeping across its neck to where Ciarou still was lodged.
"Watch out!" Halcyon yelled but Ciarou, busy with drinking, didn't see it coming in time. The talon's caught on his shoulder, ripping him free, and flung him into Halcyon. The half-vampire lost his concentration and along with it his invisibility as he was hurled into the moon elf's stomach and the two went crashing down. "You idiot!" Halcyon shrieked and wrestled from under the vampire who grunted with pain, blood seeping from his shoulder and chest, and black gryphon blood trickling from his lips.
Halcyon wriggled free just as the gryphon soared into the air and took off, obviously having enough. Still the elf raised her daggers, readying herself for a dive that never came. Her eyes followed the white beast disappear into the cloudy sky and sighed, finally letting her daggers drop before she wiped them clean on the ground and fastened them back to her thighs. She panted as she carefully strode back to where she had been pinned beneath the monster. A golden sparkly caught her hazel-gray eyes and she crouched down to pick it up. It was a thick golden amber stone held by a thick silver chain entwined with black iron. Etched into the amber was a silver seal containing two gryphons on each side, with a black rose in the middle.
"The Kingdom," Halycon cursed as she stood and dropped the amulet into a small pouch tied to the leather belt hanging loosely around her waist. Her hand strayed to the sheath that accompanied it, just to make sure she hadn't lost her precious sword during the battle. A small twig snapped and she spun on her heel, both knees bent, ready to make a dodge. Ciarou stood before her now, running a hand through his blazing red hair and wiping the blood from his lips with the back of the other hand. Then he lit a blue glow on the right side of his chest, waiting for the magic to heal the external injuries.
He nodded towards Halcyon's injured shoulder, "You got that?" He offered his hand that still tingled with blue sparks.
Halcyon, with a mixture of fury and frustration spat at his feet. "I don't need your help!" she snarled. "But not even the Lord's help can save you now!" She brushed back her cloak and started with a brisk pace towards the vampire who's eyes suddenly shot to a tree above her. A few loose leaves slowly twirled towards the floor, Halcyon pausing as she sensed their descent, realizing with horror that her anger had softened her senses. Something was still up there.
Ciarou bolted forward and locked an arm around her waist, her breath being stolen from her as she was jerked into the air and then the right. "Ah!" Halcyon breathed with the breath she managed to gather. They were racing full speed ahead, her face turned towards a creature that seemed to come out of no where and was now persuing them, moving over to the left flank. Anger welled within her. This play had gone on long enough. Her hand heated with a foggy white mist that she shot off in glowing orbs. The first landed just to the animal's right, exploding in acid fumes.
The second was a little too off to the left, but the third was a charm. It caught it squarely in the right shoulder, exploding on the joint which gave way and the leg crumbled beneath it, sending the whole body flailing to the side and skidding through the rushing leaves. Halcyon smirked with satisfaction. The blow most surely wouldn't kill the beast, but that would probably lose it or at  least give it some time to think about what it had gotten into if it came after her again, along with some rotting flesh and probably a great loss of hair around the shoulder.
Suddenly Ciarou zig-zagged through trees so closely Halcyon felt the sting of rough bark and twigs rushing past her bare arms. Then, deciding she had enough of being carried, the elf began to kick her feet demanding, "Okay, that's enough! Put me down! I said put me down!" Halcyon reached to her arm and wriggled a small knife free. Just as she was raising it to level with his neck, the vampire suddenly came to an arduous down and then an abrupt stop. The force was so strong Halcyon found herself flung backward and from the vampire's hold, rolling across soft grass a few yards away from thier halt.
Spitting out grass and gritt, the elf righted herself and sent a hand to steady her head, her vision swimming and her stomach feeling queasy. "Ugh," she moaned as she staggered to her feet and then took a look around to see where the vampire had brought her. A small little cottage made of dark Indain-red wood sat nestled under a few largely outbranching oak trees near bare from the coming winter. It had a fine patio, a back porch, and two large light-wooden twin doors with windows on both floors. "There's a basement too," Ciarou grinned, pointing to where some black stairs wound from a side door to another that seemed to go on into the ground.
Halcyon lips curled into a condescending look. "That's nice, but what makes you think I won't kill you?"
"I saved your life," the vampire shrugged. "We're even. But if you think not, then kill me." He reached below his cloak and tossed the elf a dagger which she snatched easily from the air, clenching it firmly between her fingers. The vampire cocked a challenging brow as she raised the weapon. Her arm wound back...
      SHROOM!
It flew easily from her palm, sliding from her fingers and cutting through the air whith a whirr. Ciarou didn't even batt an eye as the dagger plunged into the ground just centimeters from his black boots. In stead of smirking though, as Halcyon had expected and received from so many of her kin when she showed a heart (which was more sledom than ever) the vampire's lips curled into a small releived smile.
"So, will you come in and let me have a look at those cuts? You know it might get worse if it infects, and a gryphon's talons aren't always the cleanest things around."
Halcyon sneered with disgust, at both the notion of dirty talons tearing through her skin at at herself for not killing the damned vampire. It would all turn on her later, this she knew for certain, so how come she kept having hope? A hope that something might actually go right for her. A foolish hope that thus so far had never been proven true, or probably ever would. But for now, just in case any more of those creatures were lurking about, she could use having a blood-sucking being with magical ability and cunning as her.
The Moon Elf shrugged and allowed the vampire to lead her into the safety of the cottage.

Silverstars

Spirix licked fastidiously at his wounded shoulder. Being a seer and medicine cat, he could take care of it quickly, but in the meantime...he needed to retreive that gryphon amulet.
He wondered about his acquaintance, Polaris, mometarily.
Giving his shoulder, partly healed, a few more licks, he set off tracking the elf again. It was not hard. Her part-vampire friend left a clear  trail, and it did not take him long to find a hidden, redwood cottage. Circling it, Spirix scouted out the entrances, then, returning to his starting point, scaled a tree, andusing it as a bridge, went to sit meditatively on the roof. He could have simply leapt up, but his goal was to take the amulet with as little noise and notice as possible.
Spirix perched on the edge of the narrow chimney, cocking an ear, listening carefully. He heard a soft, metallic thud, and words passed between the elf and Mancherai.
Carefully, ever carefully, Spirix sank into the chimney, bracing all four  deceptively slender, but strong limbs against the sides. Hoping fervently that the slight rustle of his long, thick fur wouldn't alert the elf to his presence.
The words stopped and footsteps approached. Spirix wrapped his tail around his white legs and chest, hiding its white tip, and tucked his white right hand under his bowed chin. He froze as the elf bent to look up the chimney. Spirix's eyes gleamed out of the dark, and his and her eyes met and locked.
Nodding for him to come down, the elf withdrew her head from the fireplace. Spirix stared after her, his green eyes full of caution, and warily made his way down. touching only his fingertips to the ground,  he hung, supporting his weight with his hind paws, he glanced curoiusly at the Mancherai, then turned his attetion to the elf.
  "Come out, " She coaxed.
Spirix politely refused, knowing there may have been a containment charm on the building that would be activated once he fully touched down. He wouldn't put it past this Moon Elf to do so.
She tried angrily, to force him down with magic, but, as anyone educated in the use of magic, his position as Seer would nullify even dragon magic used against him.
(Nice long one.)

Upon a Moonlit Glow

Halcyon sighed. "Suit yourself, beast," she snarled. She drew out a dagger and turned her back to the creature, only to spin around and slig it at the bottom of the chimney. The animal's paw tips quickly withdrew, her dagger missing, but she had not meant for it to hit. Spilling from the dagger came a greenish light splashing up the chimney like falling currents, encasing the fireplace and the chimney's top. It couldn't escape now. She could feel a couple swift charms and physical force against her barrier, but held it easily. This really was not hard at all. She wondered if it was holding back, or if it was simply weak. Ciarou gave a soft nodd towards the amulet hanging on the elf's waist belt. "I would say it were after that," he guessed.
Halcyon took the amulet off her belt and examined it. "Well, I could just give it to the beast..." she plodded, but then tightened her fist around it, "Or I could kill it and get rid of it now."
"You should save your strength. Maybe giving it up will make it go away." Ciarou took off his cloak, hanging it on the back of a chair around his round dining table.
"I don't ever give anything up that rightfully belongs to me. Why should I give it up if they can just take it? No. I keep it as long as I can until they come and try to steal it from me." she growled feverently. Ciarou cocked a brow but said nothing.
"Well just in case it succedes in taking it, shouldn't we test it and note what it is?"
"Of course. I was just about to get to that." Halcyon said, beginning her research on the amulet, and finidng more than she could understand.
